Buffer writes

I just had a question pertaining to buffer writes my system is currently maintaing 70-75% on the buffer writes. I was told that it should be closer to 95%... Any thoughts.
The "closer to 95%" is just a rule-of-thumb. It depends entirely upon a number of factors, principally the type of application(s) you are supporting, but also the number of BUFFERS and the frequency of your checkpoints. And especially on your LRU_MAX_DIRTY and LRU_MIN_DIRTY. One of the funny quirks of performance tuning is that, as you lower these to shorten checkpoint duration and improve response time, you also lower your write cache rate. Therefore, in an OLTP system, you probably don't want to be overly concerned with write cache rates. > Robert Moayedzadeh wrote in message > <7dqmd6$ip1$1@samsara0.mindspring.com>... > >I just had a question pertaining to buffer writes my system is currently > >maintaing 70-75% on the buffer writes.
