Why not a dbserveralias? Hi Obnoxio The Clown, My client is upgrading the whole enviroment (OS, DB, application and hardware), they will use SAP R/3 with 3 applications servers in a subnet and other 3 apllications servers in a different subnet. So, every application have to "see" the same dbservername, otherwise this applications servers (R3) won't start. Thanks for your attention !! and if you have other idea will be great. Hi Christian,
in $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS use:
online_tcp1 onsoctcp *hostname1 service1
That way, the listener for online_tcp1 will listen on all network interfaces.
There is a slight performance disadvantage (most likely not noticeable) compared
to having multiple listeners defined using DBSERVERALIASES. Both ways are
covered in the Admin Guide.
Hope this helps, Heiko

THe answer is LIE! On the server you would have the sqlhosts file as
you show it above but on a server on the second subnet have the
following entries:
online_tcp1 onsoctcp hostname2 service2
online_tcp2 onsoctcp hostname1 service1
You see the engine will be listening on hostname1 for connections using
service1 and on hostname2 using service2 but will NOT CHECK the server
name against the sqlhosts entries ONLY against DBSERVERNAME and the
list of DBSERVERALIASES! This will work like a charm, do it all the
time.
