Hi, I have an IDS 7.30 on Solaris 2.6 with 5 databases. Which is the best method to backup and restore the databases. I need to restore the databases separately.

The only way to backup and restore a single database from a server is to
use dbexport/dbimport which is neither fast nor is it an "online" backup.
Any tables that depend on the content of other tables (ie parent-child
relationships etc) will not be in sync.
IFF you create each database in it's own dbspace(s) and isolate the tables
from one database to dbspaces that only its tables use THEN ontape and
OnBar can perform dbspace level restores (backups are style server level)
so you CAN request that just the dbspaces that belong to a particular
database are restored. This is safe and consistent if a pain sometimes.
Art S. Kagel
You can try to define each database to be placed in the given dbspace. Place
all tables and indexes for this database separately from other databases
data. According to this, you can restore your database with warm restore of
one of the dbspaces.
If data from databases is mixed between dbspaces you must do what Art said.
But remember, that with dbexport you can't replay logical logs against your
data.
