Hmmm ... Carefully avoiding the question:

How 'bout:
echo 'create database my-new-db-name' | isql
dbschema -q -d my-db-name |
sed 's/char(1)/char(2)/g' |
isql my-new-db-name
and then generate the forms from the new db ? Should give you 260
fields, if that's not enough then go for char(3).
