Sure just put the path of an already existing file instead of a tape device. The only rub is that the volume size is limited to 2GB so when tbunload prompts for another tape rename the current file to filename.N and touch a new empty file before replying to the prompt. Art S. Kagel > Art, Is the 2GB max file size a limit of tbunload or the OS? Reason I'm asking is that AIX 4.2.1 - for example - allows you to create files larger than 2GB. I've never tried tbunloading (or onunloading for that matter) a database to such a file, but since tbunload just handles a data stream, why then, as long as you had your tapesize set appropriately, would it care whether you were writing to a file or say a 72Gb DLT device? I would hope that Informix does not make the extra effort to purposely code limitations such as this into their software.
