RE: FireStream

Hi, First, the AMD chip is a GPU. So you wouldn't expect to see a database version any time soon. What you could see in the short future is a "hack" where someone writes a bunch of UDR/UDFs that make a C call to access the GPU. Notice that I said its a hack. AMD would have to open up the video's device driver to allow other applications to use the GPU. You'd have to have te engine make a call to use these APIs unless you wanted to write your own device driver. (Not something I would recommend.) As to 64bit IDS for Windows? Why would you want to ruin a perfectly good server and put Windows on it? :-) From: garage_dba@hotmail.com To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: FireStream Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2008 12:55:35 -0500 http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/06/16/AMDs_latest_FireStream_processor_hits_1_teraflop_1.html?source=NLC-TB&cgd=2008-06-16 Could IDS 11 be made to run on this board? BTW, when is 64 bit IDS due to be released for Windows? _________________________________________________________________ Enjoy 5 GB of free, password-protected online storage. http://www.windowslive.com/skydrive/overview.html?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_Refresh_skydrive_062008
