IIF 2000 for Linux
Posted in 2000
A user installing Informix Internet Foundation 2000 on Red Hat Linux could not connect via dbaccess or his own program, getting "-952 User's password is not correct for the database server". Another user suggested the cause was Linux shadow passwords and MD5 password hashing, which the IIF2000 authentication code couldn't handle; disabling both let the connection work, though the poster was unwilling to run production that way. An Informix product manager said a proper fix was coded for the 9.21 Foundation.2000 Linux release due that June; no fix details were given, and a later poster asking for specifics got no reply.

Hi.
I just finished installing IIF2000 in a Redhat/x86 box. Everything went
well until I had to connect using dbaccess ('am logged in as informix.)
Whenever I connect using dbaccess (Connection>>Connect), I get the error
described below:
14:20:25 listener-thread: err = -952: oserr = 0: errstr = : User's
password is not correct for the database server.
My simple test program that just gets a connection from the database gets
the same error when I execute it.
FYI I can only way I can connect to the database using dbaccess is if I
pass the database name from the commandline. But this won't fly since I
need to able to programmatically interact with the dabatabe.
I'd apprericate any information.
stay cool.

hi,
got the same problem when using odbc...
if you`re using shadow and md5 passwords try switching
them off.
other question: the installserver script must be run as informix,
then there`s a RUN_AS_ROOT.sh that you have to run (as root ;-)
did you installed iif2000 in this way ¿
hope this helps

Hi Joerg,
Disabling shadow password and MD5 hashing did it. This is fine for
now. But I certainly will NOT deploy a machine with shadowing and MD5
hashing disabled. =20
Thank you.

Hi Jeff,
The fix for this has been coded and will be available in the 9.21 release of
Foundation.2000 for Linux (due to ship in June).
