I don't use FoxPro, so I can't relate...But I do have some tools that may help. Pure shellware and INFORMIX 4GL. 1. Systabs - DANGERWARE - Adult supervision required. An on-line table reporting program. 350k SHAR. Price: FREE Description: Allows a person to lookup table information. Designed as a replacement for "info for systems", this program is a pet project I hack on when I get some time. Great for students and others wanting to learn more about system tables and system indexes. Produces a nice report you wish info-for-tables did. 4GL Source. UNFINISHED What is unfinished: The create table portion. The reporting side with query and xref is in good shape but in need of enhancement and customization but I actually work on client projects so this program can use your eagerness and clean-up--yes JL it needs a better makefile. Price is right for the budding 4gl enthuiast. The advantage over the info-for-tables program from informix is that you can query on a group of tables and do some cross-referencing of columns and such. The create table portion was/is designed as a pick-from-available-columns-already- in the data base, but is not finished. You can hack away if you like or remove it. Documentation is extremely poor--you're looking at it. ============================================================================= 2. Sysidx FREEWARE in SHAR format - DANGERWARE - Adult supervision required Same as above. Handy dandy index report program. Probably more complete cause it don't got the create stuff in it. The reports from these two programs alone will help you avoid "info for tables, etc". These are the kinds of programs you want to write but don't have the time for. 4GL Source. ============================================================================= 3. OH GOD NOT TROFF! Yes TROFF. Posted this hacker's paradise a while back. FREEWARE. This is a shar-de-force of a mapmaker of screens. You need TROFF or a 'roff of some sort, and a bit of knowledge about it as 'ROFF ain't standard. But it IS fun. ============================================================================= Please keep in mind these tools are suitable for <ME> and I customize as necessary, as time is for the client, not perfect programs the client won't see anyway. These would be acceptable to other developers because they can be dangerous. Read the code, run the program and see how they work and make them better. I note the first two as DANGERWARE because they allow you to go into system tables so if you screw them up don't blame me... I'm a glutton for punishment but I'm not stupid... :-) I also have just the report-only programs you run from the command-line. Sorry no GUI. Oh, the SHAR files, where do you want 'em? => => => => \\\\|// (o o) ==============================---o00--(_)--00o---============================ Tim Schaefer tschaefe@gate.net The Computer Business Company, Inc. http://www.gate.net/~tschaefe Coconut Creek, FL, USA DILLIGAF!
