RE: onBar Experiences on Alpha, IDS 7.3

Hi John, Admittedly we don't use ISM, but we do use Legato on your platform with IDS 7.31.FC5. Just out of curiosity, what device names are you using when setting up ISM? Make sure they are /dev/nrmt0h (or similar). The error indicates that you may be using the rewind device e.g. /dev/rmt0h. ISM requires the non-rewind device specified by the "n". Sorry if that's too obvious and you covered that, but the error points in that direction. I hope that helps. David A. In our attempt to make the great leap forward from onTape to onBar with Informix Storage Manager we have been experiencing some pain. A simple level 0 backup and restore to/from disk based volumes works fine. Using 4mm DAT tape appears to backup OK, but an attempt at a full cold level-0 restore gives "Unable to read record 0 of file 2" in ISM and the restore fails. We have experimented on three separate AlphaServers with the same result on each. From posts to this group it seems like most people get on OK with onBar. Has anyone out there had success or failure with onBar, ISM, Tru64 and IDS 7.3x ? Thanks for any responses. John Goodbody
