The 'files' are actually directories - dbase.dbs is the directory that
holds the actual C-ISAM files that hold the data for the database called
'dbase'.
You can, therefore, run dbexport twice, each time with the current
directory as the directory that contains dbase.dbs. This will create
separate directories dbase.exp, which you can then package up separately
with tar and cart off to a suitable new machine. The dbase.exp
directory will contain dbase.sql - a text file containing the database
schema and related material. This is the basis of how to import the
data. If you end up needing dbase1 and dbase2 for the new environment,
then rename dbase.exp to dbase1.exp, and dbase1.exp/dbase.sql to
dbase1.exp/dbase1.sql. You might also need to edit the name at the top
of the file - but the rest should be OK - unless you want to set
server-specific attributes (such as extent sizes, lock modes, dbspace
names, fragmentation schemes, etc for IDS). The other files will have
names along the lines of table00123.unl containing the Informix UNLOAD
format data for a table name starting with 'table' and with tabid 123.
These names are referenced in the dbase.sql file (as renamed). There is
documentation on that format in the file unload.format that comes with
the source of SQLCMD - available at the IIUG Software Archive (shameless
plug).
