in fact the wrong character are stored in text field, for exemple one user save a message like 'client payed an account of 100 euro' and instead of writing euro used the euro symbol. So, your user entered euro symbol in the original database successfully, but you can not load it into your backup database, aren't you? It should be a problem with locales. Please, give us the values of DB_LOCALE and CLIENT_LOCALE environment variables for both environments.
client_locale = EN_US.CP1252 bb_locale = EN_US.8859-1 Those settings were set by the company which sold us our software ... this company does not exist anymore :-( so i don't know why those settings were chosen or if i can modify them.
