Re: Informix 4GL. A Future?

I hope 4GL has a future; I've got over 500K lines of code at the moment :) But I've had a look (NB: look only so far) at NewEra and what I see, I like very much. The language strikes me as having a clear philosophy and OO direction. Look at the class hierarchy; all coming from ixObject. One glance and you can see what the object relationships are. NewEra strikes me as a language you can grow with and extend in all sorts of interesting and powerful ways. Guess what? It *even* handles system text files; no more kludgy read/write techniques! As soon as I can sign off my current project, I intend to have a good session with NewEra. I'm biased, of course. I like C++ and Eiffel as programming languages and once had a lot of fun building an app using Versant. Only thing worries me is the price. Delphi is selling for $AUS 350. NewEra is $AUS 6100. Is NewEra 20 times better? I have one of my colleagues looking at Delphi....just in case. 'Course, as Delphi is in Pascal, that's 2 strikes against it to start :) (Don't bother flaming my language biases; I know they're a religious issue and all the facts in the world won't alter it:) ) Peter Wiley
