ulimit is a UNIX system parameter that limits the size of a file a user can create. You can type ulimit at the prompt to see what your current setting is. Do a man on ulimit for syntax.
There are two kinds of ulimit, by the way. Hard and soft. You can change your soft ulimit up to the hard ulimit, but the sysadmin will have to change the hard limit if need be.
