Connecting informix to ODBC

Hi, could someone tell me the whole procedure how to connect informix database to ODBC Thanks, Ciril
Ciril, There are several areas to check. ON THE CLIENT: 1) Create an ODBC Data Source. Ensure that it has the proper database name, Informix servername, Informix protocol name (e.g. "onsoctcp", or whatever is appropriate for your environment), and service name, and hostname. 2) In Informix's SetNet utility, set your environment variables INFORMIXDIR to the directory where you have Informix connectivity software installed on your client, and INFORMIXSERVER to the proper Informix servername. 3) Also in SetNet, under "Server Information", set the proper Informix server name, hostname, protocol name and service name. 4) Still in SetNet, under "Host Information", set the hostname, and default username, and select an appropriate password option. 5) Find the file "Services" on your client. This file will be similar to your server's /etc/services file. Add the appropriate entry to this file. ON THE SERVER: 6) Ensure that $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts has the proper entry for a tcp (or spx) connection to your Informix server. The four fields are servername, protocolname, hostname, and servicename. Servername should match one of the entries in your onconfig file under the parameters DBSERVERNAME or DBSERVERALIAS, protocolname should be your connection string (e.g. onsoctcp or whatever), hostname should be the hostname of your server, and servicename should match the entry you have in /etc/services. 7) Make sure the appropriate servername is in the DBSERVERNAME or DBSERVERALIAS configuration parameters in your onconfig file. 8) Make sure you have an entry in /etc/services that matches the service name that you have in your sqlhosts file. If there isn't one, you may need a System Administrator to add it for you. This entry should be the same as you have on your client. In all of the areas, the servernames, hostnames, protocolnames, servicenames, and port numbers (in services files) should all match, and your protocolnames should in particular provide for a tcp (or spx) type of connection as opposed to a shared memory connection. More details on all of these are available for free at Informix's web-site. They have an on-line copy of ALL of their manuals. Hope this helps, Kind regards, John Bejarano. You could try our ODBC driver: SCO SQL-Retriever; it will give you all you need to connect any ODBC-compliant Windows app to Informix (4-7 SE/OnLine) on many types of UNIX. Take a look at http://www.sco.com/vision/products/sqlretriever/ for more information and a downloadable eval.
