Re: User/Instance allocation problems, more

I think the question has already been answered, something about the number of semaphores kernel parameter being too low. Some of these other things, though deserve some clarification: >>Are there any Unix shared memory configuration parameters that could >>be affecting things. Definitely. Be sure to check the machine notes for your installation's recommended values. They can be found in the $INFORMIXDIR/release directory. See the release notes, too. It can save you a great deal of headache to ID a problem/bug/feature in advance. Never one to resist a plug, I just spent a morning with Elizabeth Suto's book "Informix Performance Tuning". It has lots of good information about memory configuration, which (of course) goes along with TFM. Also, take the "Architecture and Advanced Admin" class. Though it says 5.0 on the cover, it still works with DSA. Take the other ones, first. >>Any help would be greatly appreciated as we really don't see the point in >>keeping three instances online that can only accept 10 users on each. >>That's barely enough for the informix daemons and page cleaners. If >>anyone can help we would gladly send the tbconfigs for review. When I was a customer, I viewed the number of users as the number of people using the system, not the number of system processes + people. If there's an official Informix position that differs from this, your sales team would be able to point it out. If you're still having this problem, post an update.
