This thread has wandered off into the darkness. I could have done without
the Informix bashing.
I did download the 9.20 IDS for Linux, from the IIF2000 suite, and tried it.
It doesn't appear to have that -25580 problem like 7.3, although I certainly
haven't tested thoroughly.
It does seem to be slower than 7.3; a particular dbimport took 50% longer
on the same hardware and disk configuration, with similar tuning;
I'll have to look into that thing about sorting in the filesystem.
I haven't tried anything query intensive yet.
I haven't seen any problems yet with connections from 7.x clients, although
again I haven't tested much.
Even if it's slower than 7.3, it's still at least as fast as 7.23 on Windows
NT on similar hardware, and it's certainly easier to administer. Intraware
is currently doing $160 a seat for developers, and I'm a developer, so I
went ahead and bought a seat. It seemed less expensive than the offering
of some $30,000 for an upgrade. I don't really understand Informix pricing.
