Informix and leap year (help !!)

Hi, I'm using Informix dynamic server version 7.24 UC2-1. This version cannot treat the leap years and will thus have a problem to spend 29 Février 2000. Do you think that the fact of stopping my informix server there this day can avoid me having to pass to a more recent version. Is this playable? are there any risks? Thanks for any help -------------- A.ESSAMIR mailto:aessamir@synelec.fr SYNELEC TELECOM MULTIMEDIA http://www.synelec.fr/

BTW are you going to close the business on a Tuesday? or is it going to be a national holiday in France because year 2000 is a leap year? -- Compliments of QueriX -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QueriX 4GL Compilers are Informix 4GL Compatible, and Connection to other RDBMS such as Oracle. You could do that. You should verify with the Y2K page at the Informix web site that you would be able to recover your system if it crashed, though. I have my doubts that it is a sensible strategy. Also, I think the only reason you'd have problems with 29th February would be if you insisted on using 2 digits for the year and were converting strings such as 29/02/00 into a date (a well known bug whose number I've now forgotten). What's the problem with an upgrade, anyway. Much more sensible!! aessamir wrote: > I'm using Informix dynamic server version 7.24 UC2-1. I fail to see how shutting down the server will fix the problem. Presumably data with a date of 29-Février-2000 can be inserted on any day, not just on that date. I would expect that, if the server was unavailable on 29-Février-2000, people would try to insert that data on 01-Mars-2000, and it would still fail. If what you are saying is that you have a version of Informix which did not think that 2000 was a leap year, then I *strongly* suggest that you upgrade to a fixed version of Informix. Since dates are stored as a number of days since 31-Décembre-1899, staying on your current version (and simply avoiding entering any dates of 29-Février-2000) would mean that all subsequent dates would be off by one; that is, the calculation of number of days from 31-Décembre-1899 to 01-Mars-2000 would be one short, and when, if ever, you *do* upgrade your database to a correct version, all the dates will be shifted one day earlier; e.g. 01-Mars-2000 will show up as 29-Février-2000, 02-Mars-2000 will become 01-Mars-2000, and so on forever. This would probably be undesirable. June -- june_t@hotmail.com Back from the dead, resuscitated by Godiva chocolates... Please do not send Informix questions to this account.
