SE is the low end product of Informix's database servers. If you needed a server that was capable of doing a warm backup, then this was the wrong choice. I am currently running on an older version of SE, our database can be down long enough for a backup to be completed. If you are in a 24x7 operation (as we are) determine the least active time for the database and schedule backups at that time. Our backup to an 8mm drive only takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. > > Are there any manuals that address this issue? Check out the Administrator's guide for your UNIX system and use the back up methods they reccommend.
