RE: Questions about ontape
Posted in 2000
We do ontape -s (level 0) every morning while users are in with no problems
and no noticeable decline in performance. It is finished before any real
heavy processing starts for the day though.

Subject: Questions about ontape
What kind of backup is ontape? How does it work? Is it a "dd" or something
else? I have read we can work through the backup with no ill-effects, but
will processing be slowed? Are tables or other structures locked, other
than blobs fields, when the archive is running? We want to run a mergeid
process at night, when these ontape archives are being created.
TIA and thanks for answering my earlier questions today!
