Is there ASCII or ISO8859-1 Data Type in Informix?

For example a data type char(4) with value 'abcd' instead input 'abcd', I would like input '979899100' as ASCII code or 'abcd' as ISO8859-1 code. This will allow me input some special character like Cent sign, Pound sign, Yen sign, Superscript 2/3 for square/cube, plus minus sign, etc. This will easy to display in a HTML file.
