CentOS and Informix
Posted in 2012
Frank asked whether anyone had experience running Informix on CentOS. Several respondents reported it works without problems, since CentOS is Red Hat compatible; one noted smooth use apart from disk layout considerations in a test project. The main caveat raised was that CentOS isn't on IBM's officially supported OS list, so some posters recommended buying Red Hat for important production systems to avoid support disputes (though one said an IDS-on-CentOS support call had never been refused), while treating CentOS as fine for test/development. Frank thanked the group; no technical fault needed fixing.

CentOS is RedHat compatible. We've used it a ton with Informix and never had an issue. -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of FRANK Sent: Friday, November 16, 2012 1:32 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: CentOS and Informix [28853] Hi, Friends, Any comments , experiences, suggestions .... about combining CentOS and Informix. We used it for a test project - aside from disk layout, everything was = smooth. j. It works fine. All I would say is that isn't officially supported (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=630&uid=swg27013343&S_CMP=rnav#lin ux) so for imprtant production systems I buy RedHat instead, just to avoid a potential argument, although in fairness I've never had an IDS-on-CentOS call refused. regards Neil
For testing and development? Just fine, it works as smooth as butter in warm bread. As production? I would not, since IBM doesn´t recognize it as a valid OS for support requests openings. Regards.
