Re: Data-dictionary / Case tools

We are also looking at such tools. In the thread mentioned by Billy there where no mention of InfoModeler. It used to be made by Asymetrix but is now split out to a separate company with the same name as the product. They are at http://www.infomodelers.com Have anybody used it? Ver. 3.0? (It is supposed to have many new features.) Is it any good? Informix reasantly made some agreament with InfoModeler about modeling for Universal Server. I have downloaded the test version and just started looking at it. I have previously read about their ORM method (based on NIAM as I understand it). I don't quite see the utility of this as it's far too detailed for most of my purposes. In their ER and Relational modelling they seem to have done the same error of all the others I have seen by having a pletora of small windows that can't be sized and often are modal. To mee it takes far too much button clicking compared to the real work I get done. May be I am wrong. If I tried to design something complete may be it would be very helpfull? If anyone know of a top notch tool that do the essential things of entering table/column spesifications, laying it all out in a graphical drawing, generating the appropriate SQL and a few other functions, I would be very happy to hear about it. billy@west.co.za ("Billy Wheeler") wrote: :On 15 Jun 97 at 14:11, Paul Borrett wrote: : :> Does anyone have any experiences (positive or otherwise) to relate :> concerning the use of data dictionaries or CASE tools with Informix :> Online (currently version 5, moving to 7.23 shortly) ? : :There were bazillions of opinions offered here recently regarding :this subject.
