I plan to use a CASE-Tool called ASES (from Ariadne/Germany) which offers two database interfaces for Informix products: Informix C-ISAM 3.0 or Informix SE 4.1. As I would not have to worry about actually programming C-ISAM I am taking it into consideration as a cheap alternative. But I would like to know what disadvantages I buy with C-ISAM concerning PORTABILITY (DOS/UNIX), CLIENT/SERVER ARCHITECTURE (heterogeneous networks), STABILITY, PERFORMANCE and DATA INTEGRITY. On the other hand C-ISAM offers 'database' functions as well as a C API whereas SE is a pure engine which would require ESQL/C (e.g.) to be actually used. AM I WRONG ON THAT ONE? And what would be an ESQL/C runtime license (runtime for what)? My last question concerns Informix Net. I often found the example of a client running on a DOS PC using a database on a UNIX server. But are other combinations possible: DOS client - DOS server (SE) UNIX client - DOS server (SE)? Any response would be greatly apprechiated - EMAIL preferred. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lars Grupe UID lunde <lunde@cs.tu-berlin.de> Technische Universitaet Berlin ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lars Grupe UID lunde <lunde@cs.tu-berlin.de> Technische Universitaet Berlin -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
