Any ideas on how I can restrict ODBC access > to RO, while maintaining the RW privilege for 4GL users? If you're tied to CLI, then I can't do anything. However, if you get a free-standing ODBC driver (not related to Informix), then you might have some hope. Security is not a feature of the ODBC spec per se. However, in response to situations such as yours, various ODBC vendors have implemented security solutions, as we have. Using our ODBC driver, you can set all SQL select (select, insert, update etc) to all db's to all tables by Unix user and also Windows application. Try our JDBC/ODBC driver: SCO SQL-Retriever.
