ER licensing
Posted in 2005
A user asked whether Informix Enterprise Replication (ER) requires a separate licence, since HDR is bundled and his local IBM office couldn't say. The thread answered it: both HDR and ER are included with IDS Enterprise Edition at no extra cost, with IBM product pages cited. For Workgroup Edition the situation differs — ER isn't included (an upgrade licence was said to be purchasable), and an IBM product manager added that with IDS v10.0 leaf nodes may run Workgroup Edition, where HDR is an optional component.

Dear list, Is Enterprise replication licensed separately? I know HDR is 'free' but was always under the impression that ER needs to be licensed separately. Local IBM office is unsure. ER is included except IB for the Workgroup Edition server. Originally it was not available for that edition at all, since last year IB you can purchase an ER license upgrade for WGE without having to upgrade to the Enterprise Edition. Art S. Well, I normally answer questions about ER, but I long ago gave up on trying to keep the pricing rules straight. I decided that the algorithms of recursive binary tree scans and hash search techniques were far more easy for me to understand. ;-) "Willem Roos" <wroos@shoprite.c o.za> To Sent by: ids@iiug.org forum.subscriber@ cc iiug.org Subject ER licensing [5978] 11/04/2005 06:34 AM Dear list, Is Enterprise replication licensed separately? Willem, There is no additionnal license for Enterprise Replication if you have an IDS Enterprise Edition. If you have a Workgroup Edition, contact IBM. see this URL : http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/informix/ids/enterprise/ Regards. ________________________________ Philippe PIGNON Information Management IT Specialist IBM Software Group - Lab Services ________________________________ "Willem Roos" <wroos@shoprite.c o.za> To Sent by: ids@iiug.org forum.subscriber@ cc iiug.org Subject ER licensing [5978] 04/11/2005 13:34 Dear list, Is Enterprise replication licensed separately? The latest I have seen online is this: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/informix/ids/ids-ed-choice/ It appears HDR and ER are only included with the purchase of enterprise edition. No mention of a la carte pricing. Hi Sam - Both HDR and Enterprise Replication are included with Enterprise Edition. With IDS v10.0, leaf nodes (servers that do not contain the entire catalog and only replicate with their parent server) can be running Workgroup Edition. HDR is now an optional component available for Workgroup Edition.
