These are the files which get generated when there is some kind of assertion failure. af.xxxx gives the cause of the assert failure. shmem.xxxxx file is used by Informix tech support the diagnose the cause of assert failure. If these two files are more than a year old, you can delete those, if you don't want to know the cause of the assert failure. You may want to redirect these files to another directory if your /tmp is small. You can change the directory these files are listed in via the ONCONFIG paramenter DUMPDIR. Take care.
