stop the presses, I found the answer I kept reading ( actually, searching ), and found the answer in the administrator's guide, sitting over in the corner - I usually keep the 2 sql syntax guides, 2 tutorials, reference manual, migration guide, etc on the desk. The real problem was too much ( of my ) focus on the indexes of said non-admin manuals, which tend to refer to each other, and not mention the admin guide. Also, another guide, the admin supplement, contains an additional step. I expect to take some flak on this one, so I've got my flak jacket on :) thanks for listening.
