Janet said that IBM will continue to support IDS, and that's what they have done.
Supporting a product and actively marketing the product are two different things.
The sad thing is that Informix had superior products to IBM. Sorry Serge, but XPS was superior to DB2. Of course DB2 had added features and improved over time, XPS? Not so much. ;-) Not that they couldn't improve XPS, but that Janet didn't want it to still outshine DB2. (Oh and Serge, please remember I was around when DB2 V8 was launched so I *do* know a couple of incidents... ;-)
You take the features of XPS and add them to IDS, you'll crush DB2. Informix didn't know how to sell extensibility, nor does IBM or Oracle for that matter. That doesn't mean that it can't be done, just that no one provided the proper motivation or sales/marketing strategy.
