Well, 7.3 isn't really going to go anywhere in future, all the development effort will go into 9.x. So you're going to have to upgrade sooner or later. :-) Still having performance hassles? ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
>Still having performance hassles? Sure*. I made a number of changes to my onconfig file. That didn't seem to have too much of an effect. (One of these days, I'm going to take the book out and go through it line by line. I keep wondering if maybe some ration I have is incorrect, i.e. LRU to Cleaners.) So then I started running update statistics, again no ooohs and aaaahs from the peanut gallery. I've looked for fragmentation, nothing bad there. (They have every client still in the db along with all of their matters - they throw away nothing!). I haven't moved the temp stuff over to another spindle. But I will eventually, just haven't finished reading up on it and my boss keeps pestering me with other work to do (the nerve!). I was wondering if sorting the indexes of my tables would optimize searches? (Alter Table Index Clusters - I think is the command?). I'm going to set up a new server, NT/Informix and then put the newest versions of Elite in and run it for awhile. Apparently last year, a new upgrade to Elite was installed and it got so screwed up that the "Garrity Brothers" had to come in and clean it up. Only now the users say that it runs slower since the Bro's have been here to fix things. I don't know who they are but anyone who is a power user here is dead certain the drag is because of them. Given that my suggestion of putting in the newer version of Informix got slapped down ("Let's wait until the fall after we have ascertained that the new server and new version of Elite works.") I doubt anyone would take me seriously if I suggested Linux as an alternative to NT. (I'm not real keen on it either only because I've had very little Linux experience (more Unix and Aix). I have the Informix and Elite learning curve to overcome first. I'll stick with NT now, because while it's not so great at least I know how to administer and troubleshoot it and can predict problems that might occur (if that is possible, ;-)). *So to make a long answer - short, any further suggestions you might have would be warmly welcomed. And any further 'cracks' you might have will be entertained as well! ----------------------------------------------------------- Got questions? Get answers over the phone at Keen.com.
