Also it is no problem if you use the mv command.
If OnLine where writing to the log at the exact moment you moved it
(had the file open), it would continue to write to the moved file
until it was finished. This is a standard Unix feature.
The next write (assuming a new open is done) would go to the new file.
If it doesn't exist I assume OnLine will create it, although I haven't
ever tested that. (Ours haven't grown so much over 1.5 years that I
have had the need to do this yet.)

Exactly. Even in our 14x5 shop it is.
