Informix Perf - NCR

Using Online Dynamic Server 7.30 UC5 - we are trying to decide if the database server will perform better using 12 - 166 MHZ processors versus 16 - 90 MHZ processor boards on an NCR 3555 running MP-RAS 3.02 with 2 GB RAM. Does ODS perform better with more processors, howbeit slower, versus more and faster? (We are trying to decide if we can justify the expense of buying the 3 QUAD 166 mhz processor boards for the NCR 3555). In the onconfig file, we are calling out 14 NUMCPUVPS for the 16 processor machine, and we would probably use 10 NUMCPUVPS for the 12 processor configuration. Will this limit throughput by having less processors? We are running 4GL online apps and have some Powerbuilder client-server apps hitting the system using PB Informix native drivers. Memory currently does not seem to be an issue (sar shows about 200K free pages). Any additional suggestions for tuning Informix on NCR 3555 are very welcome :-) Thanks ahead of time!
