Wow! I did not expect such an outpouring of interest! So far I have received a number of VAR phone calls. In e-mail I have had several IBM Customers say they saw the same price increase I did but a couple of UK customers said they saw prices stay the same. I am NOT intending to conduct business on this list. VAR's please keep your inquires off this list. Thanks. I only wanted to compare my notes with others so I can see if it's just me and I should go back and fight for a better price. I have been running Informix Dynamic Server 9.2 "Enterprise edition" with 20 concurrent users for the past couple of years. I have HDR turned on and would like someday to run three servers in two different locations in ER mode so we have a local hot Backup as well as a offsite hot backup. I am running on Sun Enterprise 250's (single Cpu's). I also run 20 users licenses SQL runtime and 1 user SQL Development. I have ZERO(0) problems with 4J's stuff. They have been very well priced and cooperative over the past few years. Where did $17k or even $10,600 a year come from? If that is the trend Microsoft SQL will make some new customers. I have a software development VAR that is already pushing us to run M/S SQL. Thanks for all your comments! ,,, Tim -----Original Message----- From: owner-informix-list@iiug.org [mailto:owner-informix-list@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Tim Ertl Sent: Tuesday, December 23, 2003 10:44 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Maintenance prices DOUBLED? We just got socked by a HUGE increase in Maintenance. Has anyone else? 12/2001 we had $5k 12/2002 we had $6k 12/2003 we have $10,600 (after bartering down from $11,056) This is bad news for me since some of our management group seems to love the idea of M/S SQL server. Anybody find a better way to get a good price on this. We are a small company with only a dozen Informix users. Help! I can offer you unbiased advice since you a clearly a US customer: buying through a partner will often cut your bill because: 1. The partner will take care to better understand your situation, and will have more incentive to work the system to your advantage to win the business 2. The oartner will have experience from other clients on what is and isn't negotiable 3. The partner can if he or she wishes offer discounts that IBM can't or won't.
