Seems the answer is to get the newer libc file I suppose by upgrading Linux to 2.2 On Sat, 17 Apr 1999 13:09:44 GMT, ricdelon@cyberbeach.net (Louis DeLongchamp) wrote: >My system is: Intel Pentium i586, 32MB ram >The software is: SQL LINUX 7.20.UD1 > (and 4GL LINUX and 4GL RDS LINUX and 4GL ID LINUX) >I mount the cdrom >/etc/group has the line: informix::150: >/etc/passwd has the line: > informix:x:150:150:Informix:/home/informix:/bin/bash >I set INFORMIXDIR to /opt/informix >I set PATH to include $INFORMIXDIR/bin >I set stty erase ^h (ie. a ^h backspaces erasing) >I log in as root >from /opt/informix I run: tar -xvf /mnt/cdrom/sql.tar >from /opt/informix I run: ./installsql >After succesful serial number and key I get: > Installing directory . > Installing directory bin > etc/install: etc/brand: no such file or directory > Installation failed. >What to do ? > > > >loudelon... loudelon...

I had this problem when trying to install on caldera 1.2. I forget the specifics but it is a problem with libc5 stuff being incompatible with isql 7.20 (the SE engine worked fine) I wound up switching to redhat 5.1 linux with glibc 2.0.7 and it works fine.
