Informix Port Number
Posted in 1999
User asked how to find the port number Informix Dynamic Server listens on for JDBC connections on SunOS. Responses suggested using netstat, checking ONCONFIG file and sqlhosts, and examining /etc/services. A clarification noted Informix doesn't automatically modify /etc/services on Unix. The most practical solution offered was running 'onstat -g ntt' to directly display the port number.

Hi there, Anyone out there knows how to check the port number that the Informix Dynamic Server is listening at. As I am currently trying to connect to the database using JDBC drivers from Informix. By the way, what is default port number that the Dynamic Server is listening at. It is installed in a UNIX box with SUN OS5.6

Alternatively, you poke through the ONCONFIG file and find the DBSERVERNAME and DBSERVERALIASES fields. Then you study the sqlhosts file to establish which services are in use, and then you study the services file to see which ports these are on. Of course, using YP (NIS or NIS+) complicates the issue. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>

The Informix installation does not touch /etc/services you will have had to have edited it manually to add any services you want. Art S. Kagel

Frank may be working on NT, where the install process will make entries in the services file for you. It is Unix installs that require manual modification of the services file. Dave
A good all-informix way to do this is with onstat -g ntt. Near the bottom
will be a line that includes two UNIX pipe (|) symbols. The port number is
between the two pipes.
