What exactly is tbtape doing? tbtape is looking at EVERY page in every chunk that is in your OnLine system. You can follow it's activity by doing occasional tbtape -D commands and looking at the read activity. You'll see it read through every dataspace you have. you might consider drastically reducing the size of rootdbs. it's usually a good idea to use additional dbspaces for your databases. it gives you much better control of the system. rootdbs is the only dbspace that you CANNOT drop. if you're using a gig of root and only have 10M of data, you must be expecting some growth. if so, if you had individual dbspaces for each of the databases, you could start small and grow into them, saving resources all around. : -- : +--------------------+-------------------------------------------------------+ : | Michael Faurot | Domain: mfaurot@phzzzt.UUCP | : | ------- ------ | OR: phzzzt!mfaurot%bogart@mimsy.umd.edu | : +--------------------+--------------------+----------------------------------+ -- =========================================================================== jlumbley@netcom.com (Joe Lumbley) "If you believe that my statements Database Administrator represent my company, please send The Tigon Corporation money and I'll send you stock" Dallas, Texas Watch for my _INFORMIX DBA SURVIVAL GUIDE_ in Fall '94 from Prentice Hall! ===========================================================================
