sqlhosts on IDS 7.31

I have just installed IDS 7.31 on an HP-UX 11 box.
I have created a database with tables with data and can access it all fine
via dbaccess. But - when I try to access the data via isql I get error
message 25588 which says there is a problem with my sqlhosts file. I've
looked over my sqlhosts file and my onconfig and cannot find anything out of
place. There must be something missing that I'm not realizing. Does
anybody have any ideas what it might be?
Thanks in advance. I appreciate it. - Jane

In detail, no, mainly because you don't show us the entry or entries that don't
work.
You might be using an inappropriate protocol: you should be using oltlitcp not
olsoctcp (95% confident; 5% vice versa). You might not be listing the machine
name accurately enough.
You might be trying to use the same service name for multiple instances. You
might be
using 4.x ISQL which would probably have different requirements for what's in
the sqlhosts
file -- the format of sqlhosts changed about 10 years ago. You may be missing
the service
in /etc/services and/or NIS(+). You may have inappropriate option arguments in
the file.
You may have things that should be comments that aren't. You might have
non-ASCII
characters in a name. Etc.
I suggest posting the entry you have problems with, and the associated entry in
the
/etc/services file. Then maybe we can spot what's wrong.
