IDS and 4GL compatibility
Recently our company merged with another ... and they are running some old versions ... and not sure right now about timings to get them upgraded ... however, they want to upgrade the OS .. so they can move to new hardware ... IDS 9.40.uc7 4GL 7.32.uc2 Aix 5.3 My system guys want to upgrade the OS to Aix 7.1 on a IBM P8 ... Does anyone know if the above will have any issues ... I wouldn't think so because things are supposedly binary compatible .. but before I get bit ... just wanted to get input from the community ... Obviously getting IDS and such upgraded is important .. but not sure if that is possible at this time ... thanks for any assistance ... Peter Logan Database Administrator SpartanNash INC. Pete, if you have an lpar with 7.1x on it try installing Informix and the tools as a test; With later versions of IDS the installer expects a minimum TL level for the AIX version (5.x, 6.x) and fails if the TL is not at that level, not sure about the installer on IDS 9.x though. So if a situation comes about where you have to reinstall IDS after the upgrade you may not be able too. Mark
From the little I know - learning from a long-time, multiply-certified IBM user - moving an existing app to Power8 will require something about "turning on compatibility mode" for apps compiled for older versions of AIX.
