I always assumed it was just a cheap movie cliche that non-English speakers would not know the English for "yes", "no", "the", "a" etc. yet could manage a comprehensive command of the rest of the language. Apparently my assumption has been wrong. (Well done by the way, your fluency is virtually perfect).
