They are just walking distance from the front doors of Microsoft, AT&T, Boeing, etc. They had a shot at the market but proved incapable of grabbing and holding it. Salaries for DBAs and developers dropped by about 25-33% a few years back when corporate management became entranced with the idea of saving money. Salaries are now back to where they were because there is more to competence than syntax. Most non-local coders are more competent than their American counterparts. Most, however, can not translate conversation in a conference room into what the client actually meant. In a conversation a couple years back with a manager after a disaster with a Russian outsourcing firm. To paraphrase him: "They gave us exactly what we asked for but it wasn't what we wanted." They had to start over again and did so with local talent. Cost more but it worked. -- Daniel A.
