Re: Solaris memory usage

From: $INFORMIXDIR/release/en_us/0333/IDS_7.3 22. This product supports the Informix LMA (Large Memory Addressability) feature. Informix LMA provides the ability to support system configurations with greater than 4GB of RAM. Most UNIX systems are limited to at most 4GB of RAM based on the memory addressing limitations of 32-bit architectures. The following ONCONFIG parameters will be affected by LMA. The number of BUFFERS which was limited to 768000 is now increased to 536870912 The number of LRU queues has been increased from 128 to 512. The Buffer pool is allocated in a separate set of shared memory segments (instead of putting all the buffers in the resident and virtual memory segments). The DS_TOTAL_MEMORY, which is the total memory available for decision support memory is only limited by amount of virtual memory available (2^40)/2 MB. The sort memory comes out of the DS_TOTAL_MEMORY memory and hence there is no explicit limit on the amount of sort memory. The read ahead parameter RA_PAGES is only limited by BUFFERS and therefore can be any value less than 536870912. The "chunk" write algorithm is not dependent on the amount of buffers/shared memory and can write as many pages in a single I/O as possible. The maximum chunk size is unchanged at 2 GB. The maximum size of any shared memory segment is 4294967295 bytes(approx. 4GB). 23. Value that SHMADD can accept has changed from 524288 to MAXSHMSEGSIZ/1024 Sol64 = 4278190080 -- General Logistics Systems Thomas Mieslinger German-Parcel-Str. 1-7 fon: +49 6677 17 463 36286 Neuenstein fax: +49 6677 17 111 Germany eMail: thomas.mieslinger@gls-germany.com "Dirk Moolman" <DirkM@mxgroup.co.za> Gesendet von: owner-informix-list@iiug.org 19.12.2003 11:08 An: <informix-list@iiug.org> Kopie: Thema: Solaris memory usage Can anyone tell me how much contiguous memory Solaris will allow Informix to use ? (Solaris 8, IDS 7.31 FD3) I remember a couple of years ago, working on AIX there was a limit on the memory usage, and memory in Unix would be split, which impacted on performance. Is this also the case in Solaris, what is the limit and are there any fixes like AIX had ? (they had a parameter that could be set to use more memory).
