Ok with Turbo you needed some third party addons. I can't comment on Informix Optical but for most of last year I was working on an image processing system that used Plexus and Informix. You basically just requested the image you required and off it went and found it or told you it wasn't on any the mounted volumes ie anything in the jukebox and as you to load the relevant platter.
