I installed PHP3 as a loadable module on a Sun OS running Informix IDS 7.31
since I did not want to recompile Apache. The installation was not
straightforward, there were things I needed to change, although I suppose it
could have been done by judiciously setting the environment variables. I have
documented the procedure in http://www.geocities.com/sujitpal/artli007.html, in
case you are interested. Its running without any problems.
>>Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache/libphp3.so into server:
Does the shared object file exist in the location specified? On my Sun box, its
in /usr/local/apache/libexec/libphp3.so. You could either recompile with the
corrected -I directives or create a link from the directory where it exists to
the place where PHP is looking for it.
>>/opt/informix/lib/esql/libifos.so: undefined symbol: ifx_checkAPI
I ran a strings on the .so above but could not find the ifx_checkAPI call. You
may want to check the PHP source and see what ifx_checkAPI is doing. That may
give you a clue to why its complaining.
Just my $ 0.02

I have; no one here could answer my question. If you'd like to give it
another shot, I'd be happy to have you prove that I don't need a consultant
after all. Rather than make you look up the previous thread through
Dejanews, here's my problem again:
I'm trying to get PHP3 working with the Informix functions by recompiling
mod_php3. My compilation is (apparently) OK. But when I try to turn Apache
on with the new version of mod_php3, I get the error message "Cannot load
/usr/libexec/apache/libphp3.so into server:
/opt/informix/lib/esql/libifos.so: undefined symbol: ifx_checkAPI". I can
compile and use mod_php3 if I don't try to compile it with Informix
functions.
At every stage of the compilation, and in the script that starts Apache, I
have INFORMIXDIR, INFORMIXSERVER, the PATH including /opt/informix/bin, and
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/informix/lib:/opt/informix/lib/esql:/opt/informix/incl/esql set. I even tried setting INFORMIXC=gcc. The symbol ifx_checkAPI is
defined in /opt/informix/lib/esql/checkapi.o (according to Informix tech
support), and I appear to have this file. I've tried compiling
/opt/informix/lib and /opt/informix/lib/esql into my ld.so.cache.
I'm using:
Caldera OpenLinux eServer 2.3
Informix Foundation 2000
Informix Client SDK 2.40.UC1-2
Apache 1.3.9-4
PHP 3.0.16
I'm trying to compile php by using
"./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-ldap --with-xml --with-inform
ix=/opt/informix --enable-versioning --with-config-file-path=/etc/httpd/conf
".

Thanks, I looked through your page, but none of the things you suggested look applicable to my problem. I have bison installed, my path to apache within apxs is correct, my apache header files are being found, and I've updated httpd.conf for AddType and so on. My compilation process works and apache with PHP runs if I don't include the --with-informix option, so I don't think the problem is anything quite that basic to my setup. > > >>Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache/libphp3.so into server: > Does the shared object file exist in the location specified? I'm not sure that the PHP source would even mention ifx_checkAPI. Unfortunately again, I just don't have the time to start looking through the PHP source on the off chance that I'll find the problem in an Informix routine. If anyone with experience thinks that this is a easy problem that should be able to be fixed within a couple of hours, fine -- contact me and I'll gladly pay you to fix it. You can log in to my machine through ssh and need never leave your chair. I appreciate the free advice, but I'd appreciate being a few hundred dollars poorer and having the problem solved even more. (Before anyone asks why I don't just buy Informix tech support then -- that's a few thousand dollars, and I don't really think they'd be able to answer my question anyway since they already, kindly, took a crack at it under my installation support and ended up just telling me that my version of Apache isn't supported.)
