What is ids11 new function RSS for?

Hi , I had read informix ids version 11 administrator guide about RSS (remote standalone server) ? I am wondering about page number 434 : " The high level of coordination between a primary and secondary HDR pair can cause performance issues if the secondary server is located on a WAN (Wide-Area Network)." So, It mean : HDR not suited for WAN , and RSS is suited for WAN. Why ? what make RSS suit for WAN?
The HDR primary sometimes waits for a response from the secondary (for example after a checkpoint) so can suffer if there are network latency issues With RSS the primary does not wait for response from the secondary so these soort of network issues do not affect the performance of the primary
Hi, also in the Administrator's Guide there is a section that is partially copied here: Differences Between an RS Secondary Server and HDR An RS secondary server is similar in many ways to an HDR secondary server. Logs are sent to the RS secondary server in much the same way as a primary server sends logs to an HDR secondary server. However, the RS secondary server is designed to function entirely within an asynchronous communication framework so that its impact on the primary server is minimized. For this reason, neither transaction commits nor checkpoints are synchronized between the primary and RS secondary servers. In other words, any transaction committed on the primary server is not guaranteed to be committed at the same time on the RS secondary server. And since Primary does not have to wait for RSS (e.g. to complete checkpoints), the performance impact on Primary is much less. This includes slow network performance over WAN connections, but just as well other causes (like simply having as RSS a much slower machine than Primary).
