Conflict between two Informix databases
Posted in 1998
We have recently installed a second copy of Informix on a new server. This gives us a total of two Informix databases running on our LAN on two different servers. Both servers run SCO Unix. The new server is our production server and the old server is or test server. When we installed the new server, we gave it the same name and network IP address as the old server and moved the old server to a new IP address. Everything seem to work fine until I made a couple of adjustments (I couldn't leave good enough alone). The first adjustment I made was on the old server. I changed the uucp name from the old name to a new name. The next thing I did was change the parameters in the onconfig and sqlhosts files on the new server to allow users to connect to the database using ODBC. After I did this, I started receiving errors on both servers say "Shared memory not intialized for $INFORMIXSERVER 'name of the database' " when I tried to start the databases. Another error that I received was "Cannot display information since INFORMIXSERVER is on a remote machine" when I tried to start onmonitor from the old server. I have since set everything back to the way it was before all the problems began (or at least I think I have). However, I am still getting the error about not being able to intialize shared memory. Fortunately this does not happen every often on the new production server, so it is not causing a production problem. However, I am unable to start Informix on the test server no matter what I do. It seems like to me that the Informix on the test server is trying to start a thread on new server and is unable to do so. This is probably a simple problem, but I am an Informix novice and would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks. Kent Mills Programmer/Analyst Altec Industries, Inc.
