CREATE TABLE customer ( ... ) FRAGMENT BY EXPRESSION
last_name >= "A",
last_name <= "L" in dbs1,
last_name > "L" in dbs2;
One strong benefit of using expression based fragmentation is fragmentation
elimination when selecting. Basically, the optimizer can eliminate all
non-qualifying fragments from the search. There is a slight performance
degradation during inserts though, although if you are dealing with large
quantities of data, then the degradation is a mute point. With large
quantities of data, expression based fragmentation can be critical.
