Issues with onpload
Posted in 2009
A DBA found his onpload binary on Solaris 10 / IDS 11.50.UC2 had become zero bytes; after sftp'ing a copy from another server it failed with "ksh: onpload: cannot execute". Suggestions were to check file size/checksum (binary vs text FTP mode) and permissions, and to restore the setgid bit (chmod 2755 or g+s); that didn't help. After reinstalling the engine, onpload then complained of an "Incorrect database version", prompting advice to run conpload.sh, open an IBM case (not possible for him), or drop the onpload database so it rebuilds itself. No confirmed resolution is recorded.

Somehow the onpload file on our server got set to a blank file (byte =
0). I have no idea how this happened. I sftp'd an onpload file from
another server to this server from the same version of Informix.
However, when I try to run it, I get the following error:
ksh: onpload: cannot execute
Has anyone else seen this before? We are running on SunOS 5.10 and
Informix version 11.50.UC2.

OK, the permissions are "-rwxr-sr-x". How do I get that "s" for the

Take an ls -l and a 'sum' of the original and the ftp'd copy. If the sizes
or sums are not the same you may have FTP'd the file in 'TEXT' mode.
UNIX-to-UNIX FTPs should always be in binary mode, but it's worth a check.
Also check the priveleges on the file to make sure they are the same as on
the source installation. If that doesn't work, shutdown the instance and
just reinstall the engine to get a clean copy of the executables.

I reinstalled the instance and copied the onpload file over. However,
when I try to run it, I get this:
IFMX11:/pom_stage2_m>/dbengine/informix_11.50.uc2/bin/onpload -p
pom_load -j nroxtrh -fl
Incorrect database version. Make sure that is upgraded properly.
To upgrade, manually run the conpload.sh or conpload.bat script, located
in the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/conv/ directory.
I tried running this script before but I think that is what caused the
odd behavior of the onpload file. What do I need to do here?

All the times I needed to drop the database, when I run the graphical
interface,
it was reconstructed fine.
obs: ipload is the command line for the graphical interface.
Check on the dbaccess, is your onpload database created?
If not, I suggest you open a graphical terminal and run the interface.
Or you could take the recommendations, and run the migration utility
(To upgrade, manually run the conpload.sh or conpload.bat script)
I found "strange" you upgrade your engine and copy the old executable
file onpload.
Don´t see any utility on copying the executable files of the old engine,
to a new installation.
Copy just the configuration files (onconfig, sqlhosts, etc) ok? And read
carefully the
new machine notes and release notes, to see if there´s parameters
deprecated, and new ones.
Regards.

I made a copy of the onpload file from a different directory that I installed
the same database server to. I didn't copy the onpload over from a different
version, but since the file got corrupted I needed to make a copy somehow.
I did try running conpload.sh (I couldn't find the conpload.bat script), but I
still got the same error. I will try to run the graphical interface, but I am
not sure how quickly I can get that done.

Regards.

The old database is on Informix 9.21.UC2 on AIX. The new database is on
Informix 11.50.UC2 on a Sun Solaris 10 box.
I did update the server, rejetfile, and logfile variables in the session table
in the onpload database.
