FW: Replication and Locks

Look in the oracle server admin guide under SNAPSHOTS! The trigger is there for you already (I dont have thousands of triggers), it is an after row trigger that works with a date/timestamp table. You pick the refresh interval through a variety of mechanisms and can manually or automatically refresh the snapshot tables. Is this a pure replication server? Probably not, but it does replicate tables well (what most of us need). Due to the replication of ONLY modified rows the network traffic is kept to a minimum. If you need to replicate the entire database use the OS mirroring facility, they are EVEN MORE MATURE and functional than any database vendors, and other OS features such as clustering should be considered. I would ask questions like how LARGE is my database(s)? what wil I replicate? why? What is the most simple solution? Who is needed to support this? What nomenclature is required? Not, is Sybase replication better or more mature than Oracles, because on the database end we all know INDEP. reviewers rate Oracle the best. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ At the turn of the century here in the UK frontal lobotamies were also considered vogue. Perhaps these reviewers are the modern equivalent? Mark BBC Email: Mark.Denham@bbc.itd.co.uk
