upgrade failure
Posted in 2012
Bill Hamilton upgraded Informix 11.70.TC3IE to TC6IE on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 by installing over the existing Informix folder; the server then wouldn't start, logging "Service was shut-down externally" and a SuMain()/WaitForMultipleObjects() failure in olsrvice.log. He rolled back by renaming folders and TC3IE ran fine. Suggestions offered: contact IBM support (installation support may be free, IE support is cheap), check whether SHMBASE got clobbered, and test onstat -V before starting, re-copying the binaries if it fails. No confirmed cause or fix is recorded; a later post about setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /lib64 relates to a separate Unix install issue.

This is 2nd request. Any ideas? This happened on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit. I attempted to upgrade from IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.70.TC3IE to IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.70.TC6IE I had backed up the Informix folder (and the data) and did the install over the top of the old folder. The IDS would not start. I got this (in olsrvice.log): 18:15:03 Service was shut-down externally. 18:15:03 Mystiq: Failure in SuMain(): WaitForMultipleObjects(): 0: The operation completed successfully. I tried several times, even rebooting Windows once. So I just renamed folders and IDS started with no problems on TC3IE. I had previously upgraded from TC5IE to TC6IE with no problems on another server (win 2008 64 bit). How can I find out what caused the above failure?

never tried. I did not pay for support on any IE version. Maybe you can do it for install/upgrade problems? -----Original Message----- From: Art Kagel Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2012 2:19 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: upgrade failure [28885] Did you call tech support? Before you try starting the engine, run an onstat -V to see if that works or
not. If not then download and recopy in the binaries and try again. Sounds
like something got hosed up.
Ahh, didn't notice the IE in there. Yes, you should be able to get installation support online on the IBM web site IB. Not 100% on that, but, worth a try. Also, support for IE is very cheap. somewhere between 1 & 2K USD. Not bad unless this is for a personal sandbox. Art Art S. the answer Set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/lib64 to run install i ran ./ids_install -javahome none -debug debug placed log file in /tmp/informix. Got information off internet about the path .Obviously others have had rhe same problem. Pretty bad that path LD_LIBRARY_PATH not set by installation program. could not see anything in release notes about it. I wount repeat what post I found said about it we like to keep the site clean !
