IDS 11.2 keeps adding shared mem segs
Posted in 2008
Topics: Server Administration, Platform-Specific Issues
We are using IDS 11.10.FC2
HP-UX B.11.23 U
The system keeps adding virtual shared memory segments rather than try and
use existing segments. Is this normal or Have we struck some sort of bug.
The segments after V* were recently added yet you can see there appears to be
lots of free memory in the segments already existing. An onmode -F wont free
the memory up looks like we are going to have to restart the instance.
Anyone else met this behavior

The hard thing to tell is if you took some action which required lots of memory for a short time, then immediately free'd it up. This would produce exactly what you are seeing. Actions to look for are Large PDQ queries, large sorting (especially with PDQ), archives, update stats, create index, John F. What exact version are you on? We have seen where JDBC connections that remain persistent that have grown rather large from a mem standpoint. We are running 11.10.FC2W4X1 and still seems to be an issue out there. We are running the newest JDBC as well. -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of John Miller iii Sent: Wednesday, October 08, 2008 1:42 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: IDS 11.2 keeps adding shared mem segs [13641] The hard thing to tell is if you took some action which required lots of memory for a short time, then immediately free'd it up.
