}>>>>>>> Perry's response to MPower 'your future today' -- Mark Otero <<<<<<<< Your lack of a college degree shows in your spelling and sentence construction. If you are going to take a stand for a degree not being a requirement, at least make sure your e-mail is well written with no spelling mistakes. I don't think it matters that much whether you have a degree or not if you have at least some college time under your belt. It really comes down to the questions is this person capable of doing the job, willing to work diligently, and able to self educate or seek out help when needed. One of the main points of obtaining a degree, IMHO, is not to teach you a lot of stuff, but to teach you how to educate yourself and how to solve problems. If you have these two skills and can apply them well, I don't feel a college degree is an absolute requirement. Couple these abilities with a proven work history and I believe you have a good employment candidate on your hands. What a degree gets you, sort of, is a replacement for work experience. It basically shows that you are capable of learning and applying what you learn. It also shows that you can stay focused for a period of time and accomplish a specific goal. That's really what employers are looking for, someone who can get the job done. } From: mpower@ee.net (MPower 'your future today' -- Mark Otero) } Subject: Re: ANNOUNCE: Vacant Job Positions } Date: Fri, 09 Feb 1996 00:34:53 GMT } To: informix-list@rmy.emory.edu } } Brian Stoler <brian@feith.com> wrote: } } >Bill Wendling wrote: } >> } >> Alberto Maurizio Chavan inexplicably wrote: } >> } >> } Education: } >> } University degree in Computer Sciences or equivalent. } >> } >> I always love it when people ask for such and such degree in CS.
